Why join the church?
Membership at Cobleskill UMC
Membership at CUMC is an opportunity to name this church as your spiritual home by standing in solidarity with our mission and us, in turn, standing alongside you as you continue to grow in your faith journey.
When we join a local United Methodist Church, we promise to uphold it with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Many folks show up and support our church without joining, yet church membership represents a deeper commitment to your faith and your fellowship with this congregation. It’s a way of pledging to follow the example of Jesus at this particular time, with these particular people, in this particular place.
Unlike membership in a social club or service organization, there are no tangible benefits to becoming a member of a church – no discounts, no special seats, no improved status, no special recognition in the community. But there is something special about casting your lot with a group of people who, while free to think differently, share in common the same values and passion for living in Jesus' way. Church members collectively share the responsibility for bringing a message of universal belovedness, belonging, and difference-making into the wider community. This is no small thing.
