We’ve all seen a tree loaded with fruit.  The branches bend and arc under the weight of the gift.  Trees as bearers of good fruit make several appearances in the Bible.  What is the connection between a Biblical tree that bears good and nourishing fruit and our lives today?  On this Sunday when we recognize the role of mothering, we’ll talk about the kinds of ”fruit” we all bear and how what is nurturing has the capacity to reframe pain. In the second week of our series “The Canopy of Creation,” we look at the tree as witness.  Trees have born witness to the best and the worst of humanity and we see this foremost in the death and resurrection of Jesus.  This week we’ll look at the ways trees have been used by humans for some of the most unimaginable harm, and how, demonstrating God’s resilient grace, they bear witness to the possibility of transformation.
